The Dassanech fishermen of Ethiopia's Omo Valley live near the Omo River, from which they derive much of their livelihood. Although the Dassanech people are primarily known for their livestock, many also engage in traditional fishing when the river level permits.They use canoes made of wood or hollowed-out logs and fish with nets, spears, or traps woven from plant fibers.
