Born on Dec 12, 1943, #GroverWashingtonJr. could play anything from classical to straight ahead, r&b to contemporary jazz. He played tenor, alto and soprano saxophones with a suave tone and nimble fingers. He released more than 30 albums as a leader at the time of his death in 1999 including the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs Award for best fusion jazz performance in 1981 for 'Winelight,' which included the hit single ''Just the Two of Us,'' with Bill Withers.
