Albert Woolson, the last confirmed surviving member of the Union Army from the American Civil War, and the final veteran from either side whose status is not in question. Pictured here as he recently enjoyed a quiet observance of his 105th birthday. Woolson attended the dedication of a bust of himself in the Duluth City Hall and spent the rest of the day with his family. He assists his 4-year old granddaughter, Frances Ann Kobus, as she feeds her pet fish, 17 February 1955. He died a year later.
