Most people don’t realize that rats sold as feeders are just as intelligent, affectionate, and emotional as any other pet rat. They feel fear, comfort, curiosity, and joy just like cats, dogs, or us. There is no difference between a “feeder” rat and a “breeder” or “pet store” rat. They are all the same species, all capable of bonding, playing, and showing affection when given love and safety.
