This time 100 years ago, a 3.6m tidal surge had just swept through Mackay after one of the deadliest cyclones to hit the Queensland coast. The cyclone killed 30 people and destroyed 1000 buildings, around 75% of the Mackay township. But it never got a name - apparently because the BoM employee responsible for naming cyclones was on holiday at the time.
