The New York Yankees were urged not to pursue a reunion with a veteran pitcher projected to sign a big contract this offseason.
The New York Yankees and utilityman Amed Rosario are in agreement on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, sources told ESPN on Saturday, reuniting the two sides after a brief and fruitful stint last season.
The New York Yankees are officially reuniting with right-handed-hitting infielder Amed Rosario, a trade deadline acquisition and utility player they were pursuing this offseason. The report comes from Jack Curry of the YES Network, via Twitter (now X).
Rosario, who had an .819 OPS vs. lefthanded pitching in 2025, could see time at shortstop in 2026 with Anthony Volpe expected to miss the first month of the season.
The YES Network’s Jack Curry first reported that the Yankees were re-signing Rosario.
A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the New York Yankees agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract to retain utilityman Amed Rosario.
Anthony Volpe is slated to miss some time next season, and Brian Cashman won't guarantee him a starting job when he returns.
The New York Yankees are still chasing an outfielder in Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker, and appear rocky on their other stated offseason objectives. Off to a quiet start already, especially as the winter meetings have come and gone, the Yankees could be letting go of yet another offseason goal.
