A man in western Waterbury, Connecticut intentionally set his home on fire to escape after allegedly being held captive by his stepmother for more than 20 years. Police said the 32-year-old man was “extremely emaciated” and the Waterbury Chief of Police called it “the worst treatment of humanity” he has witnessed in his 33 year career.

Policw say a man started a fire in an attempt to escape a room in which he had been held captive for more than two decades.

The former police chief also attempts to appeal to the officers, saying, "I'm sorry guys, you're my best buddies," video shows.

The allegedly hostile and inebriated Klimek allegedly struck a guard rail, spun out and then slammed into another car, injuring a passenger who was later hospitalized.
