To quell protests in LA, Donald Trump is relying on a directive under a rarely used federal law that gives him powers in times of rebellion.

The Trump administration said it would send 2,000 National Guard troops into Los Angeles after a second day in which protesters confronted immigration agents during raids of local businesses.

Sen. Cory Booker called anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles "peaceful" and President Donald Trump "hypocritical" for deploying the National Guard.

Trump ordered deployment of 2,000 guard members over the objections of Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said Trump wanted to create a "spectacle." U.S. Northern Command said approximately 300 soldiers were already on the ground at three locations in the greater Los Angeles area to provide "safety and protection of federal property and personnel.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday that President Trump called for the National Guard to enforce "law and order" in Los Angeles amid protests over ICE raids.

Army officials indicated that the Trump administration is preparing to provide 20,000 National Guard troops to help crack down on illegal immigration, though the Pentagon said it is still reviewing the decision.
