The Senate will proceed with its own plan, Majority Leader John Thune said, continuing to cast doubt on the House's ability to pass Trump's agenda in one big bill.

GOP senators want to pass a narrower measure this week to speed up passage of border funds, while President Trump favors a broader approach led by House Republicans.

Trump on Wednesday criticized the approach from the Senate Budget Committee chairman, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and sided with the House GOP's broader, if politically difficult, plan that includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and other priorities. Senators wanted to address those later, in a second package.
