ARLINGTON, Texas — When we see lake effect snow flying off of the Great Lakes in the Midwest and Northeast, it can bury folks in FEET of snow. In North Texas, it's really just a few, glittery flurries and steam blowing off of our area lakes. It happened today at Lake Arlington. Our photojournalist, Josh Stephen caught some video:

Lake effect snow weakens overnight Friday
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Lingering lake snow diminishes on Saturday allowing for a brief break in precipitation ahead of Sunday’s nor’easter. We are also dealing with frigid temperatures to start the weekend.
The precipitation likely to continue into Friday will be accompanied by a dramatic temperature drop and the approach of a potentially major storm on Sunday.

A break from the snow? Lake effect continues today with arctic blast approaching this weekend
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Heavy lake effect snow will continue across Northeast Ohio Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions throughout the Cleveland snowbelt region. The most intense snowfall is expected through midday before gradually diminishing from west to east this evening.
Cold air dives into WNY from Sunday into early next week, setting the stage for lake effect snow. Winds gusting near 45mph will cause poor visibility and blowing and drifting snow.
Lake-effect snow continues to hammer parts of Michigan as Arctic air remains locked over the Great Lakes, keeping snow bands active and dangerous wind chills.
Today’s Winter Storm Warning continues for Oceana, Muskegon and Ottawa counties (shown in pink on the map above), with Winter Weather Advisories stretching across most of the southern half of the Lower Peninsula.

Bitter cold weekend with a lake effect snow chance
Today: A cold weather advisory is in effect until noon. Wind chills will stay 20-30 degrees below zero. Still bitterly cold, but winds will be lighter this afternoon. Highs near 8 with wind chills staying below zero.
According to scientists at the National Ice Center, Lake Erie is around 80% frozen over. The remaining percentage should be covered in upcoming storm.
