And with 3:35 left in regulation, the B’s finally got their insurance goal on a beautiful play, capped off by Casey Mittelstadt’s sixth of the season. Viktor Arvidsson broke the puck out of his zone on a 3-on-2 and fed Pavel Zacha just below the right circle. Zacha sent a perfect pass to Mittelstadt, who beat a helpless Jake Allen.
The Boston Bruins are preparing for a critical game against the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden, with playoff implications on the line. Coach Marco Sturm highlighted the Devils' potent top line as a major threat and stressed the importance of a fast start and disciplined play for the Bruins to capitalize on any fatigue from New Jersey's back-to-back schedule.
The second-period goal was a turnover that landed on the stick of Elias Lindholm, who fed Morgan Geekie, wide open to Jake Allen’s right. That snapshot was the difference maker, as New Jersey’s winless streak stretches to five games after a 4-1 loss in Boston.
Morgan Geekie broke a 1-1 tie early in the second period, his 22nd goal this season, and Fraser Minten, Casey Mittelstadt and Andrew Peeke (empty-netter) scored the other goals for the Bruins, who were backed by Jeremy Swayman’s 29 saves.
With injuries leading to often-changing lineups for Boston, one thing has stayed the same: The Bruins have earned to very few easy wins this season. In fact, a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday was just their second by more than two goals.
