Winter Park voters overturned a controversial ban on gas-powered leafblowers and kept Kris Cruzada on the city commission, choosing the incumbent over a well-funded challenger, as ballots were cast in five Orange County suburbs Tuesday.

Voters in Winter Park have reversed a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers. They made that decision in Tuesday’s municipal election. In 2022, city commissioners voted to ban those leaf blowers over noise and environmental concerns. They hoped the ordinance would force landscapers to use electric ones instead.

The days of the gas-powered leaf blower are numbered here. As of Saturday, a long-discussed — and celebrated and hated — ban on the devices begins to take effect in the city, making it illegal for people to use them on their own property.
