Hot, dry and windy conditions in western Colorado have officials looking at long-term plans to fight numerous fires
MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A wildfire burning in western Colorado continues to grow after forcing nearby homes and a national park to evacuate. As of Tuesday morning, the South Rim Fire remains 0 percent contained and has grown to 3,988 acres.
Crews are fighting five western slope blazes, including one at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. See the latest map of the Colorado fires.
The Wright Draw Fire, near Gateway, Colorado, burned an estimated 34 acres Friday afternoon, according to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit. Aerial crews continue to monitor the fire as plans to suppress it are underway.
We are continuing to track the fires all across western Colorado, with the South Rim Fire within the Black Canyon of the Gunnison seeing over 1,600 acres burned as of midnight this morning.
Two wildfires, likely lightning-sparked, erupted in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Montrose County, on July 10, 2025, forcing rapid campground evacuations. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control is battling blazes on the north rim and near the south entrance,
