Padraig Harrington struck the first tee shot as the 153rd British Open started in cloudy conditions at Royal Portrush on Thursday. Ireland's Harrington, twice the Open champion, was playing with Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard and Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin.

The best golfers in the world are in the UK for the final major of the 2025 season. The 2025 British Open Championship takes place in Northern Ireland this week, with 156 golfers vying for arguably the sport's most coveted trophy: The Claret Jug.

Golf's oldest championship returns to Royal Portrush. It's the third time the British Open has gone to the Northern Ireland links. Shane Lowry won in 2019.
