The North Dakota Fighting Hawks (7-5) visit the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (11-1) hoping to score a big upset on the road in the first round of the NCAA FCS College Football Playoffs

Colton Brunell, Gaven Ziebarth and Charles Langama each had a touchdown run in the final quarter for North Dakota in a 31-6 win over No. 13 seed Tennessee Tech on Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs.

The field of 24 teams competing for the 2025 NCAA Division I Football Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee.

South Dakota got the 11th seed and will host Drake on Saturday. South Dakota State got the No. 14 seed and will host New Hampshire in a first round game and Youngstown State is at No. 15 and will host Yale, the Ivy League champion that is participating in the playoffs for the first time. Harvard of the Ivy League got in as an at-large seed.

The Bison beat St. Thomas with an offensive onslaught that for a while threatened to break the school record for total offense.

The trophy is a small-scale replica of the hundreds of large, pink, quartzite markers survey crews planted in the early 1890s to delineate North Dakota from South Dakota, one every half-mile for 360 miles. The two states were established in 1889 from the Dakota Territory.

Former Lakeville North standout RaJa Nelson played eight games last season as a medical redshirt and won an FCS title.
