Witnesses reported explosion before warehouse fire at SPS Technologies in Montgomery County, Pa.
The huge blaze erupted at SPS Technologies on Highland Avenue, Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, around 9:35 p.m. Witnesses reported an explosion inside the building then flames. Abington Township Police said the warehouse was evacuated safely, with all employees being accounted for.
Fire crews battle massive industrial fire at Montgomery County’s SPS Technologies
SPS Technologies manufactures fasteners and other small metal equipment for the aerospace and other industries, said Abington Fire Marshal Chris Platz. Fire officials were initially concerned that if some of the heat treating chemicals used at the facility mixed, they could form arsenic, said Abington Fire Chief Mike Jones.
Multiple fire departments were called in to battle a massive four-alarm fire at a warehouse in Pennsylvania overnight.
Black smoke could still be seen billowing out of the building Tuesday afternoon, more than 13 hours after the first alarm.
The building was evacuated and nobody was injured, the police said, but heavy smoke and the possibility of burning chemicals led officials to close local schools.
