The San Francisco Giants were once in a position to make a postseason push, but they ended up selling at the trade deadline.

The Giants, mathematically speaking, aren’t out of the race for the playoffs. They’re six games back of the San Diego Padres of the final NL Wild Card spot with 53 games remaining, and their roster is still talented enough to go on a run. How they go about winning ballgames, though, will look different.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Yankees landed San Francisco Giants reliever Camilo Doval. New York also traded for shortstop Jose Caballero of the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Passan. Jack Curry of YES Network reported the return for Doval:

The New York Yankees have made an MLB trade deadline day splash. New York is acquiring two-time All-Star closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to multiple reports on Thursday. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal was first to report the deal.
