WASHINGTON — Brandon Nimmo hit a grand slam and matched a franchise record with nine RBIs, helping the New York Mets pound Washington Nationals 19-5 on Monday. Nimmo also hit a three-run drive in his seventh career multihomer game. The 32-year-old outfielder had four hits and scored four times after beginning the day with a .192 batting average.

In the eighth inning, Nimmo added two more RBIs to his total, doubling in two runs to extend the Mets’ lead to 12-0. This brought his RBI total to nine on the day, tying the franchise record set by Carlos Delgado against the Yankees on June 27, 2008.

The Washington Nationals fell to the New York Mets on Monday, 19-5, in what was a blowout from the start. Washington fell to 13-16 on the season with the loss, as they struggled to keep up with the explosive Mets' offensive attack.
