Though the Palisades and Eaton fires are smaller, they rank high in structures burned. Combined, they would equal the second-most destructive California wildfire in history, with more than 9,000 structures burned, according to early Cal Fire estimates. A more detailed analysis of the total number of destroyed structures is still underway.

Several homes went up in flames Wednesday as a new wildfire erupted in Studio City. AIR7 was above the scene and spotted at least two structures burning near Vanetta Place and Sunswept Drive. The Los Angeles Fire Department said more than 50 firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

A new fire — the Kenneth Fire — erupted Thursday afternoon, so far spreading across 960 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says that blaze is 35% contained.

Two Los Angeles County wildfires which tore through more than 34,000 acres in four days, killing at least 10 people and destroying more than 10,000 structures, are now among the 20 most destructive fires recorded in the state of California.

Firefighters made significant gains Thursday at slowing the spread of the major fires, but overall containment remained far out of reach.
